Back in August, Microsoft and Nokia announced a partnership to bring Office Mobile to the popular phone-maker's devices. With another announcement Wednesday, the companies have now brought to fruition their first app of the partnership.
Communicator Mobile is now available for the Nokia E72 and E52 smart phones, the companies said. The app brings the familiar features of Office Communicator – instant messaging, contact statuses, and support for texting and voice calls – to the contacts screen of Nokia phones.
"This application really provides a much more efficient way to work with others, as you can see if someone is busy or available and the best way to start a conversation with them," Ukko Lappalainen, a vice president at Nokia, said in the companies' joint news release. "It also meets all of the requirements for the enterprise: cost-effective to implement, secure, familiar and reliable."
An English-language version of Communicator Mobile for Nokia is now available at Nokia's Ovi Store, where users can get apps for the company's Symbian mobile operating system. In the future, Communicator Mobile will come pre-installed on some Nokia smart phones, the companies said.
